Wines made on the slopes of Vesuvius, with tastings at the winery

Guided tastings of wines from Mount Vesuvius
A relaxing stop between Pompeii and the Mount Vesuvius crater
Purchase this one-of-a-kind wine directly at the winery

Cantina del Vesuvio is a winery specialized in Lacryma Christi, a wine produced exclusively on the slopes of Mount Vesuvius and almost unknown outside of the region of Campania, despite its long history. This wine was made and beloved by ancient Romans, and vineyards have covered these mountain slopes since the 5th century BC. The winery has kept this ancient tradition alive by growing heirloom Caprettone and Piedirosso grapes to make their limited number of bottles of organic wine, sold only through the winery.

Cantina del Vesuvio offers guided tastings and cooking classes, a unique way to discover the history and culture of the Vesuvius National Park while enjoying the quiet of the countryside and extraordinary views over the Bay of Naples.

Unforgettable and to be repeated

We were at this enchanting place today; despite the heat, we were able to have an unforgettable experience surrounded by vineyards loaded with grapes ready for the harvest, with Vesuvius behind us and the sea in front! To complete the experience, the tasting of products (food and wine) was nothing short of exceptional! Incredibly kind, expert, helpful, and prepared staff. We had two small dogs with us that the entire staff pampered and spoiled! At the end of the tasting, we were able to purchase several of the wines we tasted! Thank you!

A Truly Special Experience at Cantina del Vesuvio

My wife who is a travel agent suggested that we tour Cantina del Vesuvio on the slopes of Mount Vesuvius. It’s located at the foot of Mount Vesuvius, which made the experience even more special and impressive. The tour started with an explanation of how the grapes are handpicked to ensure that only the best are selected. We then walked through the processing and bottling areas and learned how the wines are produced. This was followed by an amazing lunch that paired various wines with a beautifully assorted cold antipasto consisting of local meats, cheeses, and vegetables. Then came a wonderful plate of spaghetti with a light tomato sauce that left a lasting impression, served alongside a bowl of homemade meatballs. Finally, we enjoyed la “pastiera di grano napoletana,” a traditional Neapolitan dessert, to finish the meal. Of course, everything was accompanied by a suggested wine that paired perfectly with each course. The wines they produce are organic and made from grapes grown in the volcanic soil at the foot of Vesuvius, which makes the experience and the wines even more unique. We also had the opportunity to meet Giovanni Russo, one of the family members, who is naturally very knowledgeable about his family’s wines and, more importantly, a genuinely good person. We highly recommend Cantina del Vesuvio and look forward to returning

Cantina Del Vesuvio is a MUST DO when visiting Naples! Ester, Maurizio and the entire Russo family and staff create a wonderful environment to enjoy local wine and food. The views are spectacular, the food is amazing and the wine is superior. I have been enjoying visits to the winery since 2014 and have yet to be disappointed. The changes that have been made in the past 6 years only enhance the experience more. I am blessed to call these wonderful people my friends and cannot wait to receive my wine order this fall. Molte grazie, amici miei ❤️

After a morning in Pompeii, we went to the winery for the "Vitner's House Private Lunch." We were picked up by their shuttle outside of the historic site and brought to the vineyard. We toured the winery and were brought to their house. The hostess was incredibly gracious. The location is lovely, the food plentiful and delicious, and the wine flavorful and plentiful. Since this was not the end of our trip, they shipped the wines we bought to our home. This was an excellent, relaxing experience. We walked away full and happy.
